Every addition to true knowledge is an addition to human power. Addition is the first math skill most students learn and mastering, in addition can be the first step towards a long-lasting appreciation of Math. To inculcate these skills in students, activity on the Addition of 4- digit numbers using Dienes blocks were conducted in Grade 3. Dienes Blocks are concrete representations of numbers that are in exact proportion to each other, so they can represent all powers of tens, such as ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands. They help our budding mathematicians to understand the relationship between place value columns. The activity helped them understand the relationships between numbers and how quantities relate to one another. By doing this activity, their basic concept of addition got clear in a very interesting and innovative manner.
