Learning to recognize rhyming patterns in a language is an essential skill for emergent readers. Students manipulate words and sound to create such words. By imbibing such ways, they become aware of word and letter patterns that help them develop decoding skills. We, at Presidium, organized a virtual "Rhyming Petals" activity of English for students of Grade I. The activity assisted our admirable leads in reinforcing rhyming skills and also gave phonemic awareness a "priority" in early construing instruction. Students were provided with a word wall from which they had to form 5 sets of 5 rhyming words each. They wrote each rhyming word in the petal shape cut-outs and created a set of flowers & pasted them on a chart. The activity was vivacious, and it kept our young students engaged in finding and pasting petals of rhyming pairs of word cards given to them.
